Living in a small flat in Asia, the dining table is an essential piece of furniture at home. It is for work, play, family and friends. It is where I share things I love with the people I love, like food and ceramics.
Food
The recent pandemic triggered my desire to put more balanced meals onto my dining table, especially more vegetables. My Asian stomach can’t take salads everyday. So I started to explore healthy, vegetable-based dishes in Chinese or other Asian cuisines. Then I remembered the cookings of my Grandma, the kind of hearty dishes that she put out during my summer stays. And I want to document that in this food journal, by sharing recipes of Chinese cooking that are plants-focused, less greasy, and easy to make.
Ceramics
Ceramics are part of the dining experience, making it more beautiful and memorable. Just like cooking, the making of ceramics is a combination of art and science. I am amazed with the craftsmanship, form, colour, texture and history associated with it.
Another new piece added to my kitchen shelf a few weeks ago. I have been making these cups for friends lately. This white and green combination is one of them. There are two more cups in Grey glaze that I will showcase in later posts. The twisted form and exaggerated finger marks make it very easy to grab the cup without the handle. But I added the handle nonetheless, I am a hot coffee and tea person, just to make it easier to hold while drinking hot beverages.
