Sake bottle and cups -

I have been procrastinating ridiculously that I haven’t updated anything here for months. This new set of sake bottle and cups were finished last year. I really had a lot of fun throwing it albeit all the “oh no” moments during the process. The glaze came out just as I visualised in my head, which is rare. Doesn’t it look like a thin layer of snow covering the soil or charcoal dust? In Chinese we have a phrase “dusts are falling down and settled” to describe a situation where outcomes are irreversible and next is to move on. This glaze reminds me of that scene every time I look at it, but more beautiful with “snow”.

The inside of the cups look slightly different, less speckles of grey and white but a greyish sheen with speckles spreading out. Still gorgeous. It’s amazing how outcomes of glazes are affected by so many factors, form, heat, glaze composition, glaze thickness, dipping time, placement in kiln shelf, kiln type, and in this case, it’s the concaves of the curvature!
