Sake bottle and cups -
I have been procrastinating ridiculously that I haven’t updated anything here for months. This new set of sake bottle and cups were finished last year. I really had a lot of fun throwing it albeit all the “oh no” moments during the process. The glaze came out just as I visualised in my head, which is rare. Doesn’t it look like a thin layer of snow covering the soil or charcoal dust?

White and Green Cup
Another new piece added to my kitchen shelf a few weeks ago. I have been making these cups for friends lately. This white and green combination is one of them. There are two more cups in Grey glaze that I will showcase in later posts. The twisted form and exaggerated finger marks make it very easy to grab the cup without the handle. But I added the handle nonetheless, I am a hot coffee and tea person, just to make it easier to hold while drinking hot beverages.

Utensil Holder - Salvaged from a Failed Vase
Many potters say that making pottery is a humbling experience. I 100% agree. Problems and uncertainties always arise during the process. Anything that I try for the first time, I hold in my heart a 50% success rate. Until you open the cooled-down kiln and hold your work up-close for an examination, you can’t be sure what you are getting. Things can go wrong in each of the many steps leading to the end.

Vase - Iron Red
I have been working on several twisted forms lately, some are vases and others mugs. This was the very first one I did a few months back. There are still a few more waiting to be fired. I am quite happy with how the form turned out.

Practice, Practice…
Last summer, I gave wheel throwing a first try. This year, I want to be more committed. I put 5 hours per week in front of the wheels since 2 weeks ago.

Sautéed Luffa Gourd
To cook this dish of Sauteed Luffa Gourd, young fruits are used. It has a marshmallow-like texture and unique flavour. I am especially attracted to the fresh green colour of these cooked young gourds. A delightful vegetable dish that can be prepared in less than 10 minutes.

Smashed Cucumber Salad
Crunchy, refreshing, cooling. These are the words that float into my mind when I think of this Smashed Cucumber Salad. This is definitely one of the most popular Summer dishes in Chinese cuisine.

Shredded Potato Salad
Made with just a few ingredients and can be prepared in less than 15 minutes, this Shredded Potato Salad is a common comfort food for Northern Chinese families.

Green Scallion Pancakes
Green Scallion Pancakes seem a good choice for the first post of this website. It’s a well known dish among Chinese people globally. It is also so well loved that I honestly haven’t heard of any person not liking it!
