White and Green Cup
Another new piece added to my kitchen shelf a few weeks ago. I have been making these cups for friends lately. This white and green combination is one of them. There are two more cups in Grey glaze that I will showcase in later posts. The twisted form and exaggerated finger marks make it very easy to grab the cup without the handle. But I added the handle nonetheless, I am a hot coffee and tea person, just to make it easier to hold while drinking hot beverages. To achieve the twisted form, first I pulled it into a cylinder. Then with inside and outside pressure points (fingers or knuckles) unaligned, I pulled the cylinder once or twice more at a speed unmatched to the spinning speed of the wheel. The key is to not align anything during the movement, opposite to the keys of making a good cylinder.
The white glaze on the exterior has a pearlescent quality. Its finish is in between matt and shiny. The interior is a common green glaze in my studio, very stable. I quite like the overlapping of these two glazes at the rim of the cup. I may try these overlapped glazes on the whole body next time.
