Greens and Blues
I really love these lake colours in shades of green and blue. These colours always bring me closer to nature, giving me some hints of the forests or the ponds while in reality, I am living in a high-rise concrete apartment. I love a space filled plants. This cup was already happily sold to someone who shares the likes of me.
I will definitely make more pots in this glaze combination. The cup actually has three layers, blue slip underneath, then after bisque fire, a layer of Almond White glaze topped with a layer of Green. The wall of the cup is relatively thin especially the twisted parts, creating slightly a problem for the glazes to stick on during firing. A few holes are shown after first firing, where glazes pull back. From research, I think it’s the problem of multi-layers of glazes inside and outside of the thin walls, causing slow drying of glazes before firing and improper adhering to the wall during firing. At the moment, my knowledge of glazing and firing is too little to form a solid explanation yet. What I did was to retouch the “holes” with additional Green glaze, while the glaze is still hot and soft after heating the cup with a heat gun. Then the cup was fired for a second time. The colours are slightly more blue afterward. But nonetheless, still very pretty!
