Twisted Mug

I really like this mug at first sight. But after a few months of use, I think the handle is a bit of a contradiction to the form of the mug. The twisting texture is at its best when touched and felt by hands, but the function of handle takes over that opportunity. I naturally just hold the handle and rarely have a contact with the mug wall. It’s still beautiful though and I have been using this as a water mug for months. Glazes used here: Almond White on top of Midnight Blue. (All the glaze names are very specific to the studio where I make these pieces. They are not commercially bought.) Again, this combination is not ideal on the twisting form. The texture or the unevenness in the mug walls eliminates most of the “snow” effect and produces a more evenly Gray colour. This is the same glaze combination i used for earlier post of the sake bottle, which is like '“ thin snow on the rock”. This demonstrates perfectly how the texture, form, thickness of a pot can alter the outcome of the same glaze.
